(Zaman al-Wasl)- At a time when the American media outlet CNN announced a news about the increase in Russian military presence in its Hmeimim military base, the correspondent for Latakia’s News Network, an opposition media outlet, confirmed that the unfamiliar movements the base and Latakia’s port witnessed were accompanied by heavy fighter jets and helicopter movement in the city sky reaching Tartus city, and this news came in conjunction with news of Russians building two new military bases in Palmyra and Qamishli.
On Sunday evening, the American channel denied Russian withdrawal from Syria which was confirmed by the dissident brigadier general Ahmad Rahal from his indication of the increase in the number airports being used by Russian planes, as they have started using al-Dabaah and al-Shayrat airports and his confirmation that a Russian military base is being built in Palmyra in the center of Syria.
The Russian planes were limited to using al-Mezzah, Hama military airport, and Hmeimim, and news from Northern Syria indicates Russia is working on establishing two new military bases in Palmyra and Qamishli. That way Russia will have distributed its infantry troops, infantry and air force equipment in sensitive areas in Syria and its military bases will increase to seven. As it has former bases in Hmeimim, Tartus, Slinfah, al-Mezzah airport, other than its field presence in Jablet Deraa, according to observers.
Unfamiliar movements
Information intersected with the observations of the Sons of the Syrian Coast News Network generally, and Latakia city especially concerning the increased Russian fighter jet and helicopters’ flight in the region’s sky simultaneously with the anchoring of a massive ship in Latakia port and the unloading of its cargo into trucks and their movement to Hmeimim airport accompanied by helicopters.
The correspondent for Latakia’s media network, Mohamed al-Sahili, counted the exit of 23 large trucks from Latakia port under heightened security and accompanied by cars carrying Russian officers and personal to the Russian base in Hmeimim base in Latakia countryside.
Between the announcement of the decrease in the Russian presence in Syria and different sources confirming its increase the political and military analyst, Tarik Haj Bekri that the increase in the Russian airstrikes on Aleppo and the dissemination of pictures of Russian personal distributed throughout Syria confirms that the Russian withdrawal is in the media only.
He sees that the truth of the increase in Russian press can be proven through the heavy fire from the regime’s side in fronts in Aleppo and Latakia’s countryside, “And the regime prior to the Russian intervention was unable to do this and it was even cracking, and perhaps this was the most important reason for the Russian air, land, and sea intervention in a bid to save the regime to guarantee its interests.”
It is estimated that the heavy military equipment that Russia brought into Syria following the announcement of its withdrawal and its personal used the equipment multiple times the firing power of the equipment in the hands of the regime.
Since 20th of November 2015, the regime with Russian support has advanced on many fronts in Latakia province, Deraa, and Aleppo and managed to regain control over vital locations in these areas.
