Profile: Jayez Mousa, Assad's notorious Air Force General

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Major General Jayez Rayan al-Musa, the military commander of the brutal aerial campaign on northern province of Aleppo and regime’s Air Force Chief of Staff, can be ranked as one of the regime's savage officers.

The Sunni General who could only assume this post after he pledged loyalty  to regime by killing thousands of innocent civilians whom regime warplanes bombed under his supervision and by all behaviors and practices in the right of all Sunni officers under his supervision in return of showing his absolute loyalty for Alwaite officers who are higher in rank and getting close to those who are below him in rank on the expense of Sunni officers.

He cursed God for being born a Sunni and he said in one of the airports that “Bashar al-Assad is his God”.

Zaman al-Wasl obtained information regarding al-Musa and he is from a well-off Bedouin family from al-Tarkawi tribe in Qaleeb al-Thawr subordinate to Salamiye in Hama countryside and is known to be loyal to regime. He is married to two wives and has 7 daughters and two sons. His oldest son Rayan is a captain in the National Guards and participated in storming several areas most importantly Rankous in Damascus countryside.

Al-Musa volunteered in Air Force Faculty in 1974 where he spent three years. He flew Tshekman and L29 and graduated with lieutenant rank and in 1986 he was awarded major rank. During these ranks, he was trained to fly Mig25 and he failed and went down a rank.

Being from a well-off family, it facilitated many advancements in his life. In 1989 he was nominated to go to Russia to train on flying Sukhoi 24 after his father bribed a group of prominent army officers.

Al-Musa mastered the bribe game to get close to leadership personalities especially Alwaite ones like he mastered getting gaining favors through writing security reports regarding his colleagues. His first prize was getting promoted to lieutenant colonel and assuming the first post and that is chief of squadron 696 Sukhoi in 17 brigade in al-Seen airport in 1990 and he stayed in the post until 2002 when he was promoted to colonel rank.

-Blind Loyalty-

His post as chief of squadron 696 was probationary to examine his loyalty to the regime and he succeeded. Information obtained by Zaman al-Wasl confirms that during 12 years he bullied Sunni personnel whether technicians or pilots and he prevented most of Sunni pilots with low ranks to qualify as pilot. It has been said that once he received a captain in his office thinking he is Alwaite and he cursed God for not being born Alwaite.

In 2003, he was appointed deputy brigade commander in al-Seen airport and was promoted to brigadier-general. In 2004, he was appointed brigade commander of 30th Brigaed in al-Dumeir. He implemented the same approach appointing Alwaite officers and rewarding them when he would tight the grip on the Sunni officers and write reports that could harm them to the Air Force General Intelligence Administration.

In one of the incidents during that period, he was a cause in the killing of Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Diyab from Hafeer al-Fuqa when he refused to give an order of extrusion when the engine of his Mig LM23 broke down and the Mig hit the land.
During his post as commander of 30th Brigade, he stopped a number of Sunni pilots from flying and a significant number were exposed to different punishments including lay off. In a very short period, all posts in 30th Brigade were given to Alwaite officers.

Jayez al-Musa reaped what he sow in this period and he was awarded a post of deputy commander of 20 Air Force Division in 2007 in Dumeir airport. Major general was Muhsen Junaidi who was Alwaite. Sources said in the celebration of pledge of allegiance to Bashar al-Assad, he said in the square of the 30 Brigade in 2007 “my God is Bashar al-Assad” and repeated it three times.

Jayez al-Musa enhanced his relationship with Director of Air Force Intelligence Administration major general Abdul Fattah Qusiye and he was chosen to enroll in supreme staff course in 2008-2009 and in 2010 he was promoted to major general in the same post in 20th Division.

During the outbreak of the Syrian revolution, al-Musa was deputy commander of 20th Division and he was one of the leaders who called for crushing the revolution. On 1st of January 2012, he was appointed commander of 20th Air Division and commander of security area in Dumeir and surrounding areas reaching to Douma in Eastern Ghouta. His deputy was security officer of the 30 Brigade Colonel Nadeem Asaad from Dereekish. His first proposal was to open air bombs warhouses and conduct training on the use of live ammunition for all warplanes of 20th Air Division. The proposal is to prepare for orders from leadership to use warplanes against revolting Syrian cities. The training was implemented with live ammunition in al-Sab’ Bayar center in March 2012. For the first time, the Chinese bomb of 1000 titer and Russian bomb fab 1500 appeared and are carried by Sukhoi 24.

Dumeir's residents were not far from the harm of Jayez. He supervised repressıon of protests wıth a force of more than 150 personnel stationed between the airport and army personnel residential complex. The deployed force to repress the protests along with army support looted alot of locals’ property as well ask killed and beaten civilans by personal supervision of al-Musa who opened a civilian prison for civilians from Dumeir and blackmailed families of detainees to offer millions to release their sons through the mediator Lieutenant Colonel Mutesim Ghazal.

-Lion’s share-

Syrian regime used helicopters since day one of the revolution in Daraa whereas warplanes were used in the start of July 2012. 20th Air Division had the lion’s share commanded by Jayez al-Assad of air force crimes.

Al-Musa led air campaigns personally since July and during four years as commander of 20th Air Division. He gave orders to pilots in his division and with the help of his deputy Major General Sajee’ Darwish who is currently a commander of 22nd Air Division and with the help of his second deputy Major General pilot Meezar Sawan currently commander of 20th Air Division.

Sources reveal that al-Jayez is the one who ordered use of “red bombs”. Only few prominent officers in the division knew what these bombs are. They were used by orders from Air Force General Intelligence Administration through Major General Jayez al-Musa. Other bombs with silver color with no writing on it with any language. Some believe these bombs are Russians or Iranian manufactured and internationally prohibited, but they were experimented on the Syrian population by the 20th Division warplanes and under supervision of al-Musa.

After all that happened, al-Musa was appointed the Staff Chief of Air Force and Air Defense in the beginning of 2015. Thus, he gives orders to all Syria military airports and leads most of air campaign. One of which is leading air coordination with Russian air force in Hemeimim airport and leading air campaigns on al-Zabadani city and leading current air campaign on Aleppo province since 2016.

Zaman al-Wasl documents show that al-Musa who is born in 1954 whose father is Sawadeh Mahmoud and mother Ghabsha is banned from traveling by two warrants from Air Force Intelligence issued in 2014.
