(Eqtsad)- Activists and experts warn of an imminent bread crisis in governmental-held areas that will fueled by the Syrian regime.
The Minister of Internal Trade and Protecting Consumers has forwarded an order to the committee of auxiliary bakeries demanding them to reduce the production capacity of all bakeries in all provinces to 10600 tonnes and to work only one shift.
Nidal al-Zobi, head of the Committee of Auxiliary Bakeries detailed that the production capacity for each bakery ranged around 13-14 tonnes, but when the working hours dropped from 22 hours to 16 hours, the production has changed and varied among bakeries.
It is estimated that number of auxiliary bakeries reached to 62 one in all cities, 33 one of the in the countryside of Damascus, with production capacity around 350 tonnes daily. Around 50 bakeries became out of service due to recent condition resulted from the war.
The Syrian government announced importing 350 tonnes of wheat in the beginning of this year.
