(Eqtsad)- Prices of milk and dairy products have soared recently in most markets of Homs and countryside. The price of a kilogram of cow milk reached to 170 S.P in North countryside of Homs, and 200 S.P in the Eastern countryside
The price of goat milk ranged around 190-220 S.P, and dried yogurt 1000 S.P with raise of 100 S.P from last month and they are in continuous increase.
The kilogram of plain cheese is sold at 900 S.P and plaited cheese for 1300 S.P and ghee for S.P. 2000.
Abo Ammar, a Shepherd and sheep trader told Eqtsad that the price of one sheep ranges around 60-100 thousand S.P with increase of 50% from last year, he confirmed that breeding sheep has almost vanished in desert of Homs and Hama because of the air strikes which forced the breeders to leave to the desert of Jordan, Damascus and Raqqa.

Abo marwan, an owner of a small factory of dairy product told Eqtsad that the prices of yogurt and cheese and other dairy products are related to the price of raw milk, fodder and fuel in the beseiged North countryside of Homs. Prices have risen by 100% within a year and they are very rare if found.
Abo Marwan mentioned that prices of milk and dairy products used to drop in Spring because of increase in production, but this year, the opposite has happened in North countryside of Homs resulted from the rise in fuel prices by 100%, leading to increase in the price of milk and other dairy products by 50%.

The regime’s Ministry of Agriculture had estimated losses in the livestock during the period of 4 years (2011-2015) by 28 Billion S.P. on the other hand , recent information from the same Ministry revealed that the livestock in Syria has not been affected, furthermore, the number of the bovin livestock and ovis livestock have increase in number within the last 5 years.
Eqtsad sources contradict the Ministry of Agriculture's figures, as it is estimated that the number of sheep has dropped by 20% and cows dropped by 15% in the North countryside of Homs.
