Displaced families of Deir ez-Zor bribe regime militias to reach Damascus: source

Translation by Rana Abdul

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime bans Deir ez-Zor locals from entering the city and detains them in a school camp in Swuayda province despite the locals’ exit from besieged neighborhoods in Deir ez-Zor via Qamishli airport to reach al-Badiya and then Sweida to arrive in Damascus, a well informed source said.

It was concluded that Syrian regime forces and its militias are blackmailing the besieged locals to pay 900$ for a family in exchange of transporting the family to Qamishli city to continue their way across the Badiya before regime forces detained them and transported them to school camp in Sweida city.

The source added that regime militia personnel on the Sweida-Damascus road are letting a limited number of those families to enter capital Damascus for 200000 SP to be able to cross.

The member in Justice Observatory for Life told Zaman al-Wasl that Syrian regime allowed women and children to exit besieged neighborhoods in Deir ez-Zor via helicopters and transported them to Qamishli airport on Tuesday of each week previously and for free. He disclaimed his knowledge of taking families’ money who are being transported due to not having a channel of communication with them.

The source pointed out the blockade was imposed again on regime-controlled areas in the city following renewal of battles with Islamic State which led to halt of dropping aid to civilians.

The medical situation is catastrophic in the city due to Isis storming of Assad Hospital, the only hospital receiving civilians and a huge part of the hospital was destroyed, he added.

Regarding battles in Deir ez-Zor, the member in the observatory said, “Isis is trying to reach Furat al-Sham Hotel, but they failed so far in conjunction with Isis advancement to al-Baghliye besieged neighborhood.”

It should be noted that al-Jawra, al-Qusur, al-Harabeesh, Ghazi Ayyash, and part of al-Muwazaffin neighborhoods are controlled by Assad forces and its militias and beisged by Isis. The regime is recruiting young men from these neighborhoods under the banner of “National Defense”.
