(Zaman al-Wasl)- Islamic State on Wednesday captured Tell al-Nuri village in Hasaka province from a tribal rebel faction allied with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), activists said.
The activist Rasid al-Janoubi told Zaman al-Wasl that Isis attacks targeted a location for the Syrian Elite Forces that are subordinate to the former Coalition head Ahmad Jarba. Violent confrontations took place between the Elite Forces and Isis in the area of al-Malihah that lies on the administrative border between Hasaka and Deir ez-Zor next to the town of Abu Khashab in Deir ez-Zor countryside.
The activist added that Isis attack led to the death of 3 members of the Elite Forces and the injury of at least 5 others due to Isis detonating a car carrying explosives in their location on the joint fronts with SDF.
ISIS in a statement said it took control after its fighters attacked an area close to the fields of al-Malihah on the administrative border between al-Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor, which led to deaths and injuries on the Kurdish side (PYD) indicating the continuation of confrontations between the two sides.
On the other hand, al-Ghad Movement led by Ahmad Jarba, announced on Wednesday the Syrian Elite Forces which are subordinate to Jarba deterred an attack from Isis forces from two axes on the points of connection in Malihah al-Tharou in Deir ez-Zor by circling the Isis fighters and cutting off their supply lines. The movement confirmed the death of 25 members from the attackers and that 6 bodies are in the hands of the Elite Forces.
On its official website, the movement indicated that Isis continues to target their locations with anti-aircraft missiles announcing the death of one of its members and the injury of three others.
In a related context, in the last two days the PYD-led SDF alliance reinforced its advancement in the village of al-Shmeseni north of Markada town with air support by warplanes of the Global Alliance to counter Islamic State, according to local sources.
The same sources stated the start of clashes between Isis and the SDF alliance in the village of Aenad west of the town of Markada, after an attempt by a group of Isis covert operatives to sneak into SDF and its allies’ locations there with the aim of compensating their losses in al-Fadghmy village on the eastern shores of the Khabur river.
The Elite Forces had announced last April that it has control over the villages of Badiyet, Abu Khashab, Malihah al-Tharou, Raja’an, and Oum Madfaa in Deir ez Zor and al-Hasakah, despite the announcement of the SDF of its control over the villages of Oum Madfaa and al-Makman and the media outlets subordinate to PYD broadcasting images and videos from these villages, raising questions about the form of coordination between the two parties.
The Syrian Elite Forces, the military wing of the opposition al-Ghad Movement, participate with the SDF alliance in fronts against ISIS in the south western areas of al-Hasakah, areas which are next to Deir ez- Zor’s north western countryside.
It is worth mentioning that last February the SDF alliance with support from the International Alliance planes took control of the city of al-Shadadah and the town of al-Arisha from Isis as part of a military operation called the Wrath of Khabur. It has been the SDF’s most important battle so far, since its formation by the United States in October 2015 from militias mostly following the Democratic Union Party and its self-rule, yet ISIS continues to control the town of Markada there.
