Ahrar al-Sham, Nusra Front take strategic town from regime west of Damascus

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Powerful Ahrar al-Sham movement and al-Qaeda's Syria branch, the Nusra Front, have seized control of a strategic town on the western outskirts of Damascus on Thursday, killing and wounding dozens of regime forces, rebel sources and state-run media said.

The capture of Deir Khabiya town has failed regime's plan to encircle the Western Ghouta suburbs as well may ease the noose on the besieged Daraya town, according to activists.

Ahrar al-Sham backed by Nusra Front branch and other rebels groups launched the battle of 'Zaeer al-Ahrar' late on Wednesday to capture Deir Khabiya and nearby district that links between Quneitra province and Damascus.

Regime media outlets said regime forces had made tactical retreat from the town, denying the humiliating defeat that inflicted by Islamist factions.
