Homs: Residents of a-Water neighborhood organize sports activities

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Residents of besieged al-Waer neighborhood in Homs city have launched their local sport festival this week that will for two weeks, such a move to break the siege suffering and to revive hope amid harsh living conditions, activists said.

The festival includes many kinds of group and individual sports for professionals and amateurs trained under supervision of the general Body of Sport and youth like: football, basket ball, volley ball, gymnastics, chess, kickboxing, Judo, Karate, table tennis, athletics, and badminton.


“the festival is really a cry from inside the siege and the pain, it is a sport eruption against all who oppressed us or connive in keeping silent toward the injustice we are suffering”, a well known figure inside al-Waer expressed his feeling.

He added that the festival is the second part of an important activity started last year as a necessary action to help sport in Homs to come to the top of interests after years of disappearance due to shelling and siege and the suffering of people in Homs, he added that the festival is part of the revolutionary activities in Homs.

The speaker mentioned that the main goal of the festival is to build a generation interested and educated in sport and have the morals of sports besides bringing players and opponents to the atmosphere of competition, which has vanished from the city of Homs after hard years of unfairness, oppression, displacement and siege.
