Hama prison detainees start new revolt, take police officer hostage

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Hundreds of political detainees in Hama central prison have revolted for the second time this month, taking senior police officer and guards hostage as regime failed to abide by a deal reached to end a mutiny by freeing fellow inmates, sources said Saturday.

The prison's power and water supplies had been cut and regime forces have been surrounded the jail to retake it by force, activists said.

Early May, the political prisoners took guards hostage about a week as they were trying to halt the transfer of several inmates to another facility where they believed they might be executed.

At the time, Interior Ministry said the situation at the prison was normal and denied there had been any disorder.

Footage circulated on social media showed the detainees taking what they said the Commander Hama police.
