Kurdish PYD frees 16 Arab women after 9 days in detention

Translation by Rana Abdul

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Democratic Union Party (PYD) on Sunday has released 16 ladies from Deir Ezzor after they were arrested and detained for 9 days in the party prisons in al-Mabroukeh in al-Hasaka’s western countryside.

Ahmad al-Ramadan,
Head of  “Deir Ezzor is being Slaughtered Silently”, confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl that PYD arrested the women for no reason 9 days ago and they released them on Sunday night.

He added that among the women are 6 women from the al-Shaiyatat area in Deir Ezzor’s eastern countryside who had taken the road to the desert of Abu Khashab- where the Syrian Elite Forces are distributed- and which cuts through the Abed al-Aziz mountain heading towards Ras al-Ayn area in al-Hasakah countryside.

Al-Ramadan said that people from Deir Ezzor in ISIS controlled areas take this route to get to Qamishli airport with the aim of travelling by air to Damascus or other areas which enable them to travel outside the country. He indicated that the PYD limited entry to al-Hasakah province to the town of al-Mabroukeh west of Ras al-Ayn city.

The activist indicated that it costs an average of 400$, and each person pays between 100-150$ as a bribe at checkpoints so they can pass without having a guarantor from the province.

Media outlets subordinate to the Democratic Union reported of the administrator of the al-Mabroukeh camp Suleiman Abed al-Aziz that 150 displaced persons arrived to the camp in the last week due to the start of battles north of al-Raqqah as al-Mabroukeh is the closest area to al-Raqqah province, confirming “the arrival of a number of displaced persons from the areas of Deir Ezzor.”

The autonomous administration subordinate to the Democratic Union Forces prevents people, merchandise, and food goods entering the province from known roads as it limited the entry to what it calls “Free al-Mabroukeh Point,” as it considers itself an independent state. It subjects displaced persons and trucks wanting to enter the province to a detailed search in al-Mabroukeh, then it charges custom fees on goods, and it has built around 35 tents in December 2015 close to the crossing point.

The Kurdish autonomous administrative holds hundreds of Syrians in camps in the areas of Ayn al-Khadra, Tell Aswad, al-Mabroukeh, Ayn Arab, and Afrin. In addition, it holds hundreds of Iraqis in al-Hawl camp east of al-Hasakah, most of whom are women and children wanting to pass, but it forced them to stay in the camps and it demands international organizations collaborate with it as an alternative to Turkey and its camps, and the safe zone surrounding countries are demanding.

It is necessary to indicate that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) announced in 2014 the establishment of autonomous administration, where it has its own military and security apparatuses, its courts, and institutions similar to state institutions and covers 3 areas Afrin, Ayn al-Arab, al-Jazira north of al-Hasakah. At the end of 2015, it joined the Democratic Syrian Council that arose from the al-Malakiya conference that took place simultaneously with the Syrian opposition conference in Riyadh.
