Regime forces press hard to retake ground in Hama countryside

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Homs northern countryside rebels in cooperation with rebels in southern Hama countryside repulsed Syrian regime attacks with Syrian National Defense (NDF) on Tuesday while trying to storm Kharbet al-Jame’ and Aqrab villages in west southern Hama countryside.

Zaman al-Wasl correspondent in Hama said the regime mobilized for the operations military vehicles and many NDF fighters in Misyaf area in preparation to storm the two villages from three axis. Before storming, the regime air raided the areas with vacuum missiles and bomb barrels in cooperation with Russian warplanes.

The correspondent reported on behalf of a fighter in the battle that Ahmad Sighati led NDF militia controlled on Tuesday small parts of Kharbet al-Jame’ village north of al-Houleh. However, the rebels before the afternoon repulsed the big attack on Aqrab, the second attack in less than a year, and liberated the northern parts of the village as well as killed several SND thugs.

The fighter Abu Saqer said a soldier in regime army explained that regime offensive on Tuesday was launched to take revenge on its major loss in Zara village and to make up for the military failure in storming Hur Binafseh village in southern Hama countryside beginning of 2016. The military campaign which lasted 45 days with air support by the Russians.

-Warning of new massacres-

The Unified Revolutionary Council in al-Houleh released a statement today saying a sectarian mercenary group subordinate to Ahmad Sighati with air support and heavy artillery are trying to storm Aqrab village in southern Hama countryside, a geographic extension of al-Houleh area.

The statement confirmed al-Houleh was exposed to more than 30 air strikes in the last 24 hours causing huge damage and burn of houses as well as injuring dozens. Also, al-Houleh received more than 4000 displaced people from Aqrab and Kharbet al-Jame’.

The statement warned of possible massacres similar to al-Houleh massacre in 2012. The statement demands the United Nations and international observers of the cessation of hostilities to take responsibility and move fast to force the regime and NDF militia to stop the military campaign which violates explicitly the United Nations enforced cessation of fire.

Ahrar al-Sham rebel faction in cooperation with another rebel faction repulsed an NDF advancement in Khaneefis village subordinate to Salmiye on the east northern front of besieged Homs countryside.

Abu al-Hareth al-Naeemi, a fighter in al-Qunaiterat village, said that Mahmoud Afeefil, the NDF militia leader in Khaneefis, tried with NDF fighters on Monday to place a checkpoint on Homs-Salmiye autostrada on an opening leading to northern countryside to arrest women and rob civilians property. The rebels countered the move and clashes erupted between the two parties resulting in cut of international road for hours. Rebels forced Afeefi fighters from whom dozens were injured to leave the area and back off from placing the checkpoint.
