Torture victims profiles: activist Marwan Hussein

(Zaman Al Wasl)- An aid and relief activist was arrested 3 years ago and died 3 days later under torture , but his body was not handed to his parents till now, while parents recognized his body among the leaked photos for bodies in the military hospitals.

In 2013, the Air Force Intelligence arrested Marwan Hussein, an aid and relief activist only 5 minutes after his phone call with his brother.

His brother Abdul –Razaq reported that he was taken to the badly-reputed security branch 215 of air forces, and was killed 3 days later under torture, but the regime buried him in unknown place without attendance of anyone of his family, his belongings were handed to his parents a month after arrest.

Al- Hussein, 54, graduated of the Department of French literature at Damascus University, he held a nursing certificate, he works in providing the field hospitals in between the areas of Daraya and al-Tal with needed equipment.

“The martyr was very keen in securing medication and equipments to field hospital, he always put the public interest first, even he postponed an operation for his brother because it was not urgent and the equipments could be used for other patients”, Abdul-Razzaq, the brother said in pain.

The brother explained that all movements and calls of Marwan were monitored by the security forces and Shabiha, because of that he was arrested.

In more details, the brother told Zaman Al Wasl that marwan called him to enquire about an amount of money for to cover the cost of equipment for a hospital in Zabadani, but 5 minutes later he was arrested in Rokn-Eddin neighborhood in Damascus and then was taken to security branch 215. He confirmed that he was killed 3 days later, and Shabiha refused to tell his family about the place he was buried in.

“a month after his death, we were given his belongings, but we did not know were he was buried, I saw his body among the leaked photos of bodies of detainees who were killed under torture under number 3335”, brother detailed.

In the nineties of last century, marwan al-Hussein worked as a French language teacher, then an accountant in medication company to move later to establish many branches as suppliers of medical equipments in many areas in Damascus countryside like Daraya and Sehnaya.

There are more than 7500 detainees in branch 215, which is called “the troop of raid an attack, branch of military security. It comes in first place in number of death under torture, according to families’ witnesses and reports of humanitarian agencies.
