Syrian refugee robbed and killed in Turkey's Mersin: activists


(Zaman al-Wasl)- Turkish police found a body of Syrian man from Jableh city in Limonlu neighborhood in Ardemli city in Mersin Province, south west of Turkey, activists said.

The Syrian young man Firas Didan was robbed and killed while he was planning to join his fiancé in Saudi Arabia to get married, according to activists.

Activist Adam Karyani told Zaman al-Wasl, the killed man from Jableh was living with him and came to Mersin 6 months ago to find work and then travel to Saudi Arabia.

“Firas worked as a barber at first then he joined the staff in al-Jawad restaurant in Charshi area. When Firas made the money, he made a deal with two persons Abu Omar and Abu Taim to secure him a visa to travel to Saudi Arabia. Few days ago, a white car pulled over in front of the restaurant and Firas got into the car. He disappeared for two weeks and his friends reported him missing to the Turkish police.”

Days after, his body was found in Ardemli neighborhood and according to his friends his was kidnapped.

Karyani said the Turkish police talked to Turkish Sheikh who speaks Arabic. The Sheikh told one of the organization in which a sheikh from Jableh works.
A passport was found in the victim clothes and 7000$ were stolen from him, according to close friends.

According to Karyani, Firas Didan had a good reputation and did not have any problems in Mersin. He might have been a victim of a gang who stole his money. He pointed out that there were bruises on his face. The Turkish police is investigating the crime and there is a footage from the restaurant camera.
