At least 29 people killed in air strikes on Aleppo: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime air strikes on Aleppo city killed at least 16 people on Friday, activists said as regime war planes step up its aerial bombing on the main gate of rebel-held districts.

Ten people were killed in a missile attack targeted their minibus in Castillo road while 6 more people were killed in barrel bombs attack on al Kallaseh neighborhood, according to local activists.

Syrian regime warplanes have intensified its air strikes on strategic Castillo road, the last supply route for about 400,000 people live in rebel-held Aleppo.

The rebel local council of Aleppo said  regime military had targeted Castillo road in May by 1260 barrel bombs, 1700 missiles, 92 cluster bombs, 56 surface-to-surface missiles and more than 2000 mortar shells.

On Thursday, 8 people, including 5 family members, were killed in al-Sakhour and al-Saliheen neighborhoods in barrel bombs attacks. 5 more people, including 3 children, were killed in al-Ameriya neighborhood due to missile attack, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said.

Near the Turkish border, rebels of Marea town have thwarted an ISIS attack to overrun the town, killing 30 militants.

A U.S.-led coalition fighting against Islamic State in Syria air-dropped weapons to rebels in the town of Marea on Thursday, a rebel commander and monitoring group said.

The commander, requesting anonymity, told Reuters ammunition was dropped. "The alliance dropped them ammunition ... Their situation was difficult," he told Reuters, without elaborating.

ISIS has cut rebel supply lines from Azaz to the town of Marea farther southeast, isolating the latter from other rebel-held areas.

The ultra-hardline group has been fighting against rebels in the area for several months. The rebels, who are supplied via Turkey, last month staged a major push against Islamic State, but the group counter-attacked and beat them back.

The heavy aerial bombing has been accopined with massive exdos to Turkey as fierece figgting take place between rebels and the Islamic State.

The conflict in Syria remains the main driver of the refugee crisis, forcing more than 4.8 million people to become refugees in neighboring countries. Turkey currently shelters the majority of Syrian refugees, some 3 million.
