Hassan Laila, veteran rebel fighter dies at 86

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Sheikh of Mojahidin and leader of Omar al-Mokhtar brigade died at 86 years of age, sadly in his bed before witnessing the victory he dreamed to see .

Haj Hassan Laila has formed Brigade of Omar al-Mokhtar in Jabal al-Turkmen and al-Akrad in the countryside of Latakia, where young men gathered around him to learn the courage and determination from him. “he was the father of all fighters, he has participated in all battles in the coast”, fighter Mohammed Amin Hamoud, his friend told Zaman al-Wasl.

Hamoud said Haj Hassan like most Syrians whished victory and overthrowing the tyrant and building the liberated Syria, but fate was not in his favor and he died before fulfilling his wish.

“He recommended fighters to keep fighting whatever the sacrifices are”, Hamoud added.

Homoud mentioned that Haj Hassan used to make sure of camouflaging vehicles after battles to protect them from being targeted by the regime forces.

“once Haj Hassan was praying, and a Fozdika shell fell near him and shrapnel covered the place, but he completed his pray without fear, and when he finished, he asked me without any fear if all fighters were safe, because of that he was a source of courage to all of us”, Hamoud said.

Haj Hassan Joma was born in the village of Obin, in the countryside of Latakia near the Syria-Turkish borders, he worked as a farmer for 45 years, and young men nominate him to be the Mokhtar of the village before the revolution, then he joined the revolution and formed the Brigade of Omar al-Mokhtar mainly from young men of the village of obin an surrounding villages.

He participated in all battles of Jabal al-Turkmen and al-Akrad, he had 76 sons and daughters and grandchildren. He used to look after his disabled wife in his break of fighting.
