Damascus Suburbs: collective poisoning cases reported in Kanaker town

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Local activists reported collective poisoning cases in Kanaker town west of Damascus as hundreds of people got an intestine inflammation for unknown reasons.

The Western Ghouta Medical Council indicated the Kanaker Medical Center received nearly 1000 cases of intestine inflammation few days ago and until now.

There are no serious cases of intestine inflammations whereas the center registered 105 cases of intravenous hydration and other 23 cases were referred to hospital.

 The rest of the cases was responsive to treatment and under recovery. Samples of water and vegetables in the town were taken, the town which signed on undeclared truce since a year.

The Director of Kanaker Center for Primary Health Care Doctor Abu Obada told Zaman al-Wasl tens of patients who have intestine inflammation came to the center on June 13 and more patients came in the next day.

The number of patients increased in a noticeable way and the symptoms are the same mostly high temperature, head ache, joints and stomach ache, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Abu Obada added the intensity of the symptoms varied and members in the same family got the disease and sometimes the whole family. The biggest segment of the patients is adults and it was small in children and infants. The response of patients to medications was good and it needed a lot of intravenous hydration, but some cases were referred to hospital.

Most of the medications provided in the center and pharmacies were consumed. A committee from Health Directorate entered some medications and took samples of water, fruit and vegetables to perform tests to discover the reason behind this collective unprecedented poisoning in the town which holds a truce with the regime whose checkpoints are spread on the entrance of the town and Free Syrian Army is situated inside the town, Abu Obada confirmed.

Activist Omar al-Dimashqi from the Media Center in western Ghouta said the Heath Directorate entered some medications into Kanaker and took samples from water and vegetables to perform tests in order to find the reason behind the poisoning.

Kanaker holds a truce with the regime whose checkpoints are spread on the outskirts of the town whereas FSA is located inside the town.
