Senior opposition figure demands Turkey to open investigation over border killing

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Vice President of the Syrian opposition's National Coalition demanded investigation of Syrian civilians killed on the borders with Turkey on Sunday confirming victims who wanted to flee the war and oppression were massacred with live bullets.

Samira Masalmeh’s demands came after SNC deleted a published a statement on its website demanding Turkish government investigate the incident.

SNC deleted the statement by the SNC president decision. The likelihood is that Turkish authorities provided data regarding the painful incident, Masalmeh told Zaman al-Wasl adding the deleting decision was made so the Turkish authorities can continue investigating the incident.

Still, Masalmeh did not hide she was surprised SNC deleted the statement saying, “I do not deny what Turkey as a friend has been doing for us, and I am very respectful to Turkey for opening doors for Syrians to save their lives. Today, there are more than 2,500,00 displaced Syrians taking refuge in Turkey and share public services with Turkish citizens and many Syrians receive assistance from them to continue living.”

She added, “that’s why we find it strange and we condemn any individuals mistake done to any Syrian and we demand real deterrent procedures to stop another similar incident later on.”

Turkish Ministry for Foreign Affairs on Sunday said, “saying that security forces have deliberately killed a group of Syrian civilians who tried to enter Turkey illegally does not reflect the truth.”

The spokesperson of the ministry said, “the Turkish security forces work to secure borders from danger posed by smuggling networks and terrorist organization and others. What security forces do is based on legal ground.”

Conflicting news reported that between 11 and 8 Syrians including children were killed on Sunday by bullets of Turkish border guards.
