(Zaman al-Wasl)- A military source said the Russian presence in Qamishli airport near the Turkish borders has been manifested in a group of officers and Russian military troops working on reconnaissance stations special for air, radar, and electronic scouting.
The stations also are specialized for wireless scouting and electronic jamming. The number of Russians is estimated to be 100 officers and personnel deployed since April 2016 the source reported.
The source told Zaman al-Wasl, the Russians installed 4 stations in the airport. The first station is a long range radar discovery station. It can detect through all the depth of the Turkish soil until Black Sea to the north. It functions all day to detect and alarm of any Turkish aircraft or non-Turkish aircraft. In addition, it monitors the International Alliance air activity in al-Ramaylan area, only 65 Km of distance from Qamishli airport.
The source pointed out the station is special for electronic reverse and radar jamming against air targets and this station is subordinate to the radar detection station.
The second station according to the source a station to direct and air command connected with the radar detection station. İt aims to air command and direct Russian aircraft in the range of 500 Km on medium height around Qamishli airport. This covers all of east Syria and depth of Turkish soil reaching Black Sea.
The third station is a short-range landing station. The station measures height and offers assistance to Russian military and civil aircraft in emergencies during landing, according to the source.
Russia also the source added has established a wireless scouting station medium-ranged to analyze all wireless calls picked up in Arabic, Turkish, Kurdish, and English in Qamishli airport.
Qamishli airport is considered a reserve airport for all Russian military aircraft working the eastern region in Syria to land in emergencies.
The source mentioned presence of an air force group consisting of specialized offers to receive any Russian civil and military aircraft especially Yoshin, Antonov which comes periodically to the airport.
The protection of those group of Russian is the responsibility of the air force intelligence which control all of the airport, the source revealed.
The source disclaimed circulated news a while ago saying the Russian transported a group of military aircraft to Qamishli airport to use it to launch air strikes on the eastern region.
