(Zaman Al Wasl)- Defense Ministers of Russia, Iran and the Syrian regime to meet in Tehran this week to discuss the latest situation on ground and to make deals for arms and aerial ammunition, military source told Zaman al-Wasl.
Sources said senior military figures have accompanied the Minister of Defense Fahad Jasim al-Fraij, in his visit to Tehran to hold a meeting with the Minister of Defense of Iran and Russia.
The source added that the aim of the meeting was to make deals to provide the Syrian regime, especially the air-forces with ammunition and arms, mentioning that the delegation of air-forces was headed by Major-General Amed Balol who came back from Tehran few days ago with significant deals.
In regard the query about reason behind making deals for arms with Iran and not with Russia, sources explained that Russia had provided the Syrian regime with arms over the last years but at high cost, but now the regime is not able to afford for that like before.
The sources mentioned that Iran in 2014 had help the regime to start depending on itself in manufacturing some aerial ammunition and bombs and that was successful in covering the regime’s need for some time. However, with the increase in the area out of the Syrian’s control accompanied with Russia's rejection to bomb all the liberated areas in Syria before the regime paying for weapon, the regime needed to find another source of ammunition which was Iran, especially after losing control of most oil fields and destruction of most economic sources used to support the country treasury.
