OPINION: Turkey seeks more friends, less enemies

By Adnan Abdelrazak

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Turkey zero problems times’ designed by Ahmad Davutoglu as chancellor and implement by President of Government Erdogan until 2012 have finished. Now, there is different time with different men. What happened after the Syrian revolution is different from before it even for the friend and neighbor Turkey.

That’s why Binali Yilidirm the new prime minister launched the slogan “less enemies, more friends” sending a message for whom it may concern in Egypt, Russia, Israel and even Damascus that there is a new plan based on accepting the reality.

The bending down in the face of wind to avoid breaking down in front of storms. The new stage is more of circumstances and responses whether from Tel Aviv gate or the Russian gate. The Marmara ship incident is from the past; however, dropping the Russian jet is still a present and bounding.

To summarize it, perhaps Yildirim’s missions are to push foreign affairs toward yesterday’s friends. This may be the least of the rights for Turkey which suffers blockade and regional isolation after it has become impossible to join the EU.

The EU is as well might be going into crisis following Brexit. Not to mention the fire targeting Turkey several times striking Ankara and Istanbul in the reality of Russia insisting and America distancing itself from the region’s problems.

Whoever follows Turkish politics can notice the suffocation after downing Russian Sukhoi and the what happened after the downing. The economy and size of exchange which reaches 30,000,000 $ might not be the most important.

But a direct military confrontation was about to take place and Ankara was first to put it out. Perhaps the events in Turkmen Mountain in Latakia countryside and what is ongoing on the Turkish borders and in Aleppo now are features of the apparent conflict because what is hidden is greater.

It is the same with Tel Aviv where naturalization have started again after compromising on Marmara condition after what Israel has gained by strategic networking with Moscow. The alliance which will include maneuvers in the Mediterranean waters soon and it is most significant for Turkey. Also, it is the same for Turkey when it comes to Egypt. There are some Turkish voices calling for making it up with Egypt and considering what happened a mistake in foreign policy.

What is strange though or which can be described as a coup and not a tactic resulting from turn outs is the return of Turkish relation with Bashar al-Assad after Turkey has changed the nature of the conflict or it was one of its symbols during the past five years. That’s because there is a change for red lines as much as leaving Syrians’ fate as in the Native Indians history.

To conclude, Turkey cannot be blamed in seeking to overcome mines planted by Washington to be blown out as America desires through the Kurdish issue. The Turks have the right over AKP leadership not to through the country into the unknown for the Syrian revolution which has been destroyed by everyone including friends or even leaders of yesterday.

It is true that Syrians chose the revolution and they insist on achieving it no matter what the cost is. Despite that Turkey has contribute at least in devoting to that revolution since the red lines reaching talks of intervention and downing of Assad by force.

What is also true is that there is around 2.5 million Syrians in Turkey who were named as Muhajirin (immigrants) and the leadership named itself as Ansar (the supporters). Syrians have no one left from revolution’s leadership to even protect their lives from killing on borders or securing the basic future. Their brothers have left them before their friends.

Although Syrians love Turkey and are grateful for Turkey for what it has done for Syrians through the past five years, still, they are a human and economic bombs with two sides. Turkey can give up on Syrians or can activate and gain Syrians role because through it at sea is mere dream and childish politics for whichever in return. (Translation by Rana Abdul)
