Terrorist attacks killed 250 people in Turkey in one year

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Since July 2015, Turkey has paid a blood tax of 250 people who have died in a series of attacks in throughout the country. The country neighbors a region boiling with disruptions, especially Syria that has been lit by war for 5 years and a half fueled by various rival parties and to which fighters from across the world have flocked.

In all these deadly attacks, evidence or accusatory fingers point to two sides: The Islamic State (ISIS) or The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), both of which Ankara has placed on its terrorist entity list.

During the period of a year extending from July 2015 until the end of June 2016, 250 persons died, most of them Turks, in a series of attacks launched by the PKK or ISIS across different parts of the country.

This is a list of the worst attacks that Turkey has witnessed during the last 12 months, arranged in chronological order starting from the most recent:

- 28 July 2016: No less than 41 people die in an attack using rifles and explosive belts targeting Ataturk airport in Istanbul. The Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim announces that evidence points to the involvement of ISIS in the attack.
- 7 June 2016: 7 policemen and 4 civilians were killed in an explosion in the center of old Istanbul, in Beyazit. The attack was adopted by an organization associated with the PPK.

- 19 March 2016: 3 Israeli and 1 Iranian were killed in addition to tens of wounded in an explosion that took place in Istiklal street in the heart of Istanbul, and reports said ISIS executed the attack.

- 13 March 2016: 34 people were killed and tens were wounded in an explosive car attack that hit the capital Ankara, and the attack is adopted by an organization related to the PKK.

- 17 February 2016: 29 people died due to the explosion of a booby trapped car targeting a military convoy in a place close to the General Headquarters in Ankara. The attack was executed by an organization related to the PKK.

- 12 January 2016: 11 German tourists were killed and 16 people were injured in a suicide attack in the Sultan Ahmed area in the center of Istanbul. The attack was executed by someone belonging to ISIS, and at the time it was said he carries Syrian citizenship.

- 10 October 2016: This day witnessed one of the bloodiest attacks in Turkey’s history, where over 100 persons were killed, and approximately 500 were wounded following twin bomb attacks in Ankara, and at the time the Turkish government accused ISIS of organizing the attack.

- 20 July 2015: 34 people were killed and around 100 others were injured in an explosion in the town of Suruc close to the border with Syria and accusatory fingers pointed to ISIS.
