Homs: rebels take checkpoints from regime forces
(Zaman Al Wasl)- Rebel factions operating under the Northern Homs Operation Room have captured several regime checkpoints on Friday near Kharbet al-Suda west of al-Waer neighborhood and have cut Homs-Misyaf road for few hours, local sources reported.

Zaman al-Wasl’s reporter in Homs said the northern countryside rebels in support for local besieged population in Qazhal and Um Qasab villages launched on Friday a violent attack on many regime and National Defense Militia checkpoints located between Kharbet al-Suda and train station near Qazhal.

He added, “at the time where regime checkpoints in northern Homs countryside were shooting in celebration of the coup attempt in Turkey, rebels were liberating checkpoints on Homs-Misyaf road which is one of the most important roads controlled by the regime in the middle area. The road connects the southern region and Homs with the Syrian coast.”

Local sources in west Homs reported that violent clashes took place between rebels and regime army on the road lasting for 8 hours. The regime recaptured the road on Saturday.

The regime loss in the battle is not known yet; however, the battle was one of the biggest of the rebels in Homs northern countryside.

Also, regime bombed on Friday Qazhal and Um Qasab villages with heavy artillery and closed al-Dar al-Kabira cross point after a month from opening the road for employees from northern Homs countryside who work in regime-controlled areas. (Translation by Rana Abdul)
