(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Syrian regime air force leadership has signed a contract with the Iranian Pars Company for aircraft manufacturer to repair 5 Antonov 26 in the framework of military cooperation, source said.
The source, an officer in regime ranks, confirmed that at least one Antonov aircraft is being fully repaired in Iran and the rest of aircraft will be repaired consecutively.
In a related context, the source confirmed Iran has finished maintenance tests on the two French presidential aircraft Falcon 20 and Falcon 900 amid confidentiality between the two countries.
The two planes remained a long time in Iran with a technical team from Syrian officers of different specialties to acquire necessary technical expertise to maintain aircraft preparedness.
It is known that all these aircraft belong to 29 Military Transport Brigade centralized in Damascus International Airport which includes few military transport aircraft of old types. The old aircraft do not meet regime forces needs especially in the Syrian conditions right now. Hence, the regime used Iranian military transport aircraft. Also, Iran gave the regime Yushin 76 aircraft as well as put two Se 130 aircraft with crew to support the Syrian air force.
The 29 Military Transport Brigade includes 3 Yushin aircraft with one out of service and an Iranian aircraft gifted to regime and 5 Antonov 26 aircraft with low preparedness and 5 Yak aircraft allocated to transport military personnel.
The brigade also includes official delegate aircraft Topalov 134 currently under coordination, and a presidential aircraft of Falcon 20 type, a presidential Falcon 900 aircraft in addition to two French helicopters of Duvan type allocated for the president. (Translation by Rana Abdul)
