(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian human rights organizations and prominent figures have appealed to protect civilians in the city of Daraya in Western Ghouta of Damascus, that has been under siege for 4 years after controlling the fields by the Syrian regime, which considered the source of food for the city.

129 organizations and 362 figures signed on an appeal saying: “Daraya is still under siege and heavy brutal air strikes besides the attempts of the regime and other militias like Hezbollah and Iraqi militias to control the whole city, attempts started with heavy shelling and air strikes, then hardening the siege more and more.”

The appeal mentioned that 7000 people of Daraya lack the minimum essential living conditions and suffer of unprecedented criminal acts, mentioning that regime’s claim about foreign or outsider groups are not true.

The appeal continued that regime and allies have launched a brutal attack to invade the city and reached to the residential area that accommodate large number of women and children and elderly which put additional risk on people’s lives in Daraya. The appeal confirmed that regime tries to wipe out the city of its people in an attempt to change the demographic structure of the country.

Organizations and prominent figures added: “the world has kept silent toward regime’s crimes, and has done nothing the human rights violations, which stripped the international community and bodies defend human rights of their credibility and show their inability to do anything to stop the Syrian regime’s crimes in Syria.”

The appeal demanded the international community and human rights organizations including the United Nations and Red Cross to act quickly to save protect people under the siege in Daraya and provide them with minimum living requirements.

The regime forces have relaunched new series of attacks against Daraya in June 2016, using barrel bombs ending the agreement of hostility cessation started in February 2016 and brokered by Russia and USA, beside breaching in July 27, 2016 a truce of 72 hours announced by the regime in the first day of Eid.

The regime controlled fields in Southern West of Daraya during the first half of this month, July 2016 causing blockage and siege against civilians.

Tamam Abdul-Rahim, spokesman of Liwa Shuhada al-Islam told Zaman al-Wasl that situation is becoming harder in Daraya city as 7800 civilians live in the area and regime forces are at close to the residential area.

He mentioned that the shelling was too heavy in the last 4 days at an average of a shell every minute, while almost 700 explosive barrels were thrown over the city in the last 3 weeks, apart from land-land missile and artillery shells from the sites of the fourth troupe.
