Syrian regime forms new militia, mainly of tribesmen, in Hasaka

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Regime forces and its security branches have started forming a new militia called Bayariq al-Ashayer in the Southern countryside of Hasaka in conjunction with prevailing tension within militias of Syrian Democratic Forces after arresting many militants of al-Shytat battalions at barriers belong to Democratic Union Party (PYD).

Activist Ahmed al-Ali reported that regime’s military intelligence in Hasaka have been for two months working on forming a new tribal militias affiliated to them called Bayariq al-Ashayer, where conscription based in villages of Mahasen of al-Jabbor tribes at the eastern side of Southern countryside. The commander of the new militias according to the activist is from the village of Amamra in the town of Arisha who has strong connection to regime’s military security.

Activist Malaz al-Yusuf confirmed that prominent figures loyalist to regime have participated in forming a new military faction affiliated to the regime cooperating with People’s Protection Units (YPG), the military wing of the PYD.

He mentioned that reconciliation and sorting out the legal situation of people who are wanted for the Syrian regime in order to encourage young men to join the new militia and national Defense Forces and other called “Loyalist of Security Branches.

Al-Yusuf reported that regime demanded teachers to to join sessions of self Defense under penalty of freezing their salaries, many of them have finished the sessions and serve at regime’s barriers in Hasaka and surrounding.

The activist mentioned that tension started prevailing among people and members alliance of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) led by the PYD after many violations of the alliance against villages as many cases of assault and looting had been reported to have been done by members wearing the uniform of the SDF militias.

Al-Yusuf mentioned that a state of alert between PYD and Syrian Democratic forces as flying barriers were installed to arrest members of those forces who belong to Shytat tribe, while fronts between these forces and the Islamic State in Shadadi have recorded relative calmness.

Many forces share controlling Hasaka province like People Protection Units (YPG), the armed wing of PYD which control the widest area of the province, while the Syrian regime control the security areas and military bases and dozens of villages around Hasaka and Qamishli, while the Islamic State controls only the town of Markada.
