(Zaman Al Wasl)- Group of dissident Syrian officers, currently living in the officer camp in Turkey, have recently established the Free Officers Gathering, sources said.
Sources said the number of members is in the hundreds after a large number of dissident officers and officers inside Syria joined the gathering.
Colonel Mohamed al-Mohamed, the commander of the military council in the city of Kafr Laha and one of the gatherings’ founders, mentioned that the gathering aims at building a united military institution that works within policies and detailed plans to get out of the chaos, marginalization, patronage, and corruption present amongst the free officers’ ranks. It works to integrate the officers into the brigades and formations of our blessed revolution in a specialized and effective fashion, to avoid the mistakes committed by those who call themselves leaders and for which our people and sons are paying the price for.
He added in a conversation with Zaman al-Wasl correspondent in Homs, that the gathering helped develop a new persona for the free officers which garners others’ respect, and reminds them that our revolution drew its legitimacy from officers’ dissent and the demonstration of civilian brothers, considering that the presence of free officers is a continuation of this legitimacy.
Al-Mohamed clarified that the gathering includes, other than its commander, 6 representatives for organization, publicity, accounting, management, military, and security issues.
It includes in its internal organization which Zaman al-Wasl, obtained a copy of, the clause, “every dissident officer has the right, in accordance with the principals of the Syrian revolution and its moralities, to join the gathering after approval of the gathering central command.” Every gathering member has the right to make constructive criticisms, difficulties, and problems for the central command to study, find solutions to and respond to after voting.
