Qualified Syrian refugees can not leave Turkey over citizenship plan

Reporting by Orwa al-Sousi

(Eqtsad)- trusted information revealed that the Turkish government has put new conditions in regard to Syrians with higher education who have been accepted for the resettlement programme announced by many countries like England and Canada.

According to the information Eqtsad’s correspondent obtained, the Turkish Authority has refused granting permission to travel for many Syrians admitted in European countries despite finishing all the travel procedures and booking a flight, and many cases of ill people were not permitted to leave as well.

A Syrian man talked on condition of anonymity to Eqtsad that he was admitted in resettlement programme in England but he received a phone call from an employee works in the United nations’ office in Ankara responsible for refugees, told him that Turkish Government has ceased file of Syrians with Higher Education who were admitted for resettlement programme including his family’s file, despite admitting him by England.

The source reported that the employee has told him that the Turkish Government is restudying his file and other Syrians’ with higher education certificates and admitted within the resettlement programme to see the possibility to grant them the Turkish nationality even without their permission.

Eqtsad has found many cases of Syrians were banned of travelling outside Turkey within the resettlement programme despite determining a travel date for them by the hosting countries, which incited their anger because they considered resettlement is their right granted by the international law and refugees rights and no one has the right to deprive them of it.

Human rights sources explained to Eqtsad that Turkish government is trying to benefit of Syrians with high education and highly skilled and granting them the Turkish nationality.
