Prisoners of Sweida jail revolt against execution sentences

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Revolt erupted early Thursday in Sweida central prison in southern Syria as inmates protested against an execution sentence to conduct against their fellows, source said.

The mutiny started when the regime forces stormed inside the prison to take 4 inmates away, three of them sentenced to death, then a conflict happened between prisoners and the regime forces, no more information was available about later development.

According to an audio tape for the moment of breaking in the prison, the connection with inmates was disconnected in order to obtain more information and check the credibility of the audio record.

A well-informed sources reported to Zaman Al Wasl that the prison of Sweida to the south of Damascus hosts about 1100 prisoners, 750 of them were accused of supporting terrorism because of opposing the Syrian regime, including officers and soldiers.

One of the prisoners said his inmates have forced the regime officers and prison’s guards to leave the building and completely controlled it.

General Hassan Khalaf, prison director, has requested from representatives of the inmates to calm down as a condition to fulfill their demands. In the same time, Syrian government troops surrounded the prisons with their full munitions.

The source mentioned that negotiations were postponed from 2:00 am till 5:00 am according to request by the prison’s manager.

A year ago, Zaman Al Wasl obtained information from a prisoner freed from the prison of Sweida, who talked about the atrocities happened inside the prison.
The former prisoner was a University student from the countryside of Damascus, was arrested by regime’s forces following participating in a demonstration. He mentioned that corruption, theft, drug dealing, killing prisoners and other crimes were widely practiced inside the prison.

Prison of Sweida, the Syrian Southern city of Druze majority consists of two towers, each one has an outdoor square, a section for under-aged (under 18), a section for women, a internal independent big room to punish offenders with less than 3 months imprisonment in order to transfer them to singular cells, besides an external independent room for Islamists detained before the revolution.

There is a canteen for each tower supervised by Numair al-Assad besides other influential figures like Ismael Warda, Khalid Nammol, and Fadel Abo jabal.
There are about 13 officers form sort of a gang and their main concern is collecting as much money as they can, beside torturing an humiliating prisoners.
