Official says Syrian asylum seekers harm Lebanese residents in Sweden

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Lebanese minister of labor blamed Syrian refugees in Sweden for Stockholm rejection of asylum applications of tens of Lebanese families who have been residing in Sweden for 10 years.

In an interview with a TV station, Sajaan Qazi the Lebanese Minister of Labor said that Sweden did not grant 75 Lebanese families refugee status or citizenship, but it gave them temporary residence, adding that today Sweden received 73062 Syrian refugees and now it is thinking how to rid of asylum seekers from other nationalities.

He clarified that after Sweden received Syrian refugees, it cannot receive other migrants without decreasing the number of residents. It looked for citizens from a weak state that does not even have a president.

Qazi threatened Sweden saying the Lebanese are not weak and that he will respond to Sweden likewise.

The TV station also asked the Lebanese social activists Carmen Abdul Ahad who stressed Qazi’s words saying “we have been tolerating the presence of one and a half million Syrian refugees, are these 75 families are in need of this residence to continue in this country?”

What is notable is that the Lebanese ministry of foreign affairs adopted the activist and Qazi’s statements and sent an official statement to Sweden ministry of foreign affairs confirming that deporting the Lebanese families from Sweden will reflect badly in the Lebanese society.
