Regime forces launch major offensive on Daraya

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Clashes between Syrian resistance factions and Syrian regime forces erupted Thursday in Daraya, south of Damascus as regime warplanes raided the city with explosive barrels and surface-to-surface missiles, local sources reported.

Daraya Local Council said the city was targeted early Friday morning with 17 explosive barrel bombs and 8 surface-to-surface missiles.

Syrian resistance factions countered the regime and its supporting militias attempts to storm the city from the southern side backed by vehicles and tanks.

Local activists said regime forces and supporting militias are trying hard to storm Daraya. Every day they try to storm and the attempt ends in several killed and injured in addition to destruction of vehicles.

The regime dropped 42 explosive barrels on Thursday alone. Daraya suffers from a firm blockade and continuous bombing since 2012 destroying 90% of the city infrastructure and forcibly displaced most of its population estimated 250000. The besieged population now in the city is estimated to be 10000.
