5 Russian ships carrying weapons reach Syria: sources

(Zaman al-Wasl) Special sources from within the regime forces confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl that 5 giant Russian tanker ships, each accompanied by 3 Russian military speed boats have entered Tartus harbor between the dates August 06 and August 12.

The anchoring of each ship was accompanied by security alertness in the city of Tartus in tandem with a Russian security cordon within the harbor in addition to two fully armed Russian military helicopters, type Mi-28 and Mi-24, flying over Tartus and above the Syrian territorial waters throughout the anchoring process and unloading of the ships.

The sources explained that a fleet of civilian trucks left Tartus harbor (which the Russian forces control completely), and they are covered completely like a convoy with a Syrian security car at the helm and one at the back at all times.
Some of the convoys, according to the sources, went to Latakia taking the Tartus

Latakia motorway accompanied by the killer helicopters flying over the sea, and some went towards Homs taking the Tartus Homs motorway under heavy Syrian security protection.

Two knowledgeable sources revealed to Zaman al-Wasl that these ships unloaded ammunition and equipment for the Russian army mainly air ammunition moved to Hmeimeem airport which is considered the most prominent military base for the Russian forces in Syria.

The shipment also included, according to the two sources, ammunition, mostly air ammunition, special to the regime army which were moved to the airports of Ash Shayrat, T4 (Tiyas), and Hama air bases to give fire coverage for the regime forces and militias subordinate to it in the new battles, especially in Aleppo where a large quantity and a variety of air ammunition is used especially cluster bombs and burning ammunition.
