(Zaman Al Wasl)- Five members of Syria's military security, and 3 Shabiha militants were killed on Wednesday in the pro-regime village of al-Khandak in Hama province, media accounts said.

A state of tension fills the area of al-Ghab plain following the incident where the security forces launched an arrest campaign targeting the people of the village of al-Khandak, some of the areas of Sahil al-Ghab, and the city of As Suqaylabiyah.

According the pro-regime media, a group of As Suqaylabiyah security forces raided a house in the village of al-Khandak to arrest a wanted person, and clashes occurred during which 5 security personal were killed and 3 village residents, and a number of person were injured.

Media sources special to Sahil al-Ghab recounted a different story, “at 7 am on the morning of Wednesday August 17, a military security patrol subordinate to the station in the city of As Suqaylabiyah formed of 11 members raided the house of the father of the wanted man Ali Saloum (he is brigadier Ibrahim Saloum’s brother, one of the republican guard office who was killed in the airport in Deir Ez Zor four months ago). And when his father asked them why they were raiding the house and asked them to show him their ideas, they attacked him and it was then that his son reached them, and he is a fighter in the ranks of Hezbollah. He opened fire on them, and then his brother (the wanted man) attacked one of the security members taking away his gun and shoot them killing 5 of them before committing suicide. The remaining security members fled shooting randomly killing two passersby and injuring others.”

The newspaper News of As Suqaylabiyah listed the names of the military security personnel killed describing them as heroes and they are Munif Mohammad, Mohammad Ibrahim, Alyawi Murshid, Mohammad Ismail, and Mohammad Haidar.

The city of As Suqaylabiyah witnessed much tension following the incident and the military security forces have launched a massive arrest campaign targeting the residents of the village of al-Khandak present in the city without exception as even women have been included in the campaign.

The residents of the village of al-Khandak massed with their arms as a response to what they consider a violation against their village, according to the newspaper al-Ghab News.

Muzin al-Attar, a villager from al-Khandak said, “they entered in a brutal manger to take the brother of the deceased brigadier and he has a brother holding the rank of colonel fighting with the army between Deraa and Suwaida, his uncle is a deceased air pilot and he was Hafiz al-Assad’s personal pilot.”

He added that accusation of smuggling arms is a fabrication and it originates in a financial dispute with the head of the military security station in As Suqaylabiyah.
Whereas Ismail Suleiman from the city of As Suqaylabiyah accused the wanted man of being a member of Islamic State within (according to him), and he accused most of the pro-regime people in Sahil al-Ghab of dealing with Free Syrian Army and selling them ammunition and weapons.

Qasi al-Khalil demanded that the people of al-Khandak be dealt with bombs, artillery, and armored tanks to exterminate the village “as the people of al-Ghab do not understand anything except the language of force.”
It is not the first incident

Many incidents have occurred in the villages of Sahil al-Ghab before this and a number of regime personnel fell victim. As in the case of the village of Shatthet when village residents killed 9 members of the National Defense most of them from the area of al-Qardaha.

On Tuesday August 16, the staff colonel Riyad Asaf al-Yunus, from the village of al-Rabiah was killed in Sahil al-Ghab during clashes in the village of al-Zara south of Hama.
