(Zaman al-Wasl) Turkish authorities arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a 9 month old Syrian baby girl, and he is the same man trusted with taking care of the baby while her family were working in one of the farms.
Turkish newspapers released similar reports about the incident, Zaman al-Wasl reviewed some of them were it was confirmed that the perpetrator referred to as S.D. was arrested and the baby victim was referred to as Y.
The perpetrator was arrested in the province of Gaziantep on 20 August hours after doctors discovered the child was raped.
Y’s family used to leave the child with S.D. during their work in one of the farms and when the family returned and found the child ill they took her to hospital where doctors revealed the terrible crime.
After the doctors realized the child was sexually abused they contacted the police to quickly investigate the suspects and they arrested S.D. who was entrusted to look after the child as he worked in the same farm.
A statement issued by the governor’s office in Gaziantep said of the perpetrator, “he was arrested a short time after the incident, the family and the child have been placed under the protection of the ministry of family and social policies.”
Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya, the minister of Turkish families condemned the incident describing it as inhumane and ugly, continuing, “the incident that a child of our Syrian guests’ children experienced evokes feelings of disgust in my conscious and with the Turkish public’s conscious.”
The minister confirmed that she would monitor the issue until the end, and that the ministry is offering the family psychological support.
The parliamentarian from the Justice and Development Party for Gaziantep province Samil Tayyar, expressed his desire for the perpetrator to be sentenced to death, commenting, “I hope they re-institute the death penalty, and for him to be executed.”
