Free Syrian Army captures ISIS-held village near Jarabulus

Free Syrian Army (FSA) forces on Wednesday captured the ISIS-held village of Kaklijah, some 3 kilometers (2 miles) south of the Turkish-Syrian border, a Turkish military source said.

FSA forces are expected to advance towards Jarabulus, around 6 km (4 miles) from the border city, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

The Turkish military is continuing to hit ISIS targets in Jarabulus as part of Operation Euphrates Shield to clear Daesh terrorists from the city, the source added.

Three FSA fighters injured in a Daesh mortar attack in Jarabulus were taken to Gaziantep for treatment.

The operation was launched early Wednesday when artillery and air strikes were followed by Turkish tanks crossing the border to target ISIS in support of the FSA.

The operation is in line with the mandate for cross-border operations provided to the Turkish Armed Forces by parliament in 2014 and backed by the principles of self-defense in international treaties.

Meanwhile, the opposition Syrian National Coalition gave its support to the operation. The Istanbul-based body said it was satisfied with the attack on ISIS in Jarabulus and supported the efforts of the Free Syrian Army to recapture the city.
