FSA fighters take Jarabulus town from ISIS: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Free Syrian Army have seized control of the ISIS-held town of Jarabulus on the Turkish border, following major attack backed by Turkish elite forces and the U.S.-led coalition air strikes, opposition media outlets and activists said.

Meanwhile, the Turkish military is continuing to hit ISIS targets in Jarabulus as part of Operation Euphrates Shield to clear ISIS from the city, the Anadolu News Agency said.

Mohamed Abu Ibrahim, senior commander in al-Shamiya Front, told Zaman al-Wasl that the next target after Jarabulus to be al-Bab town in northern Aleppo province.

Three FSA fighters injured in a ISIS mortar attack in Jarabulus were taken to Gaziantep for treatment.

The operation was launched early Wednesday when artillery and air strikes were followed by Turkish tanks crossing the border to target ISIS in support of the 5000 FSA fighters.

The operation is in line with the mandate for cross-border operations provided to the Turkish Armed Forces by parliament in 2014 and backed by the principles of self-defense in international treaties.

Meanwhile, the opposition Syrian National Coalition gave its support to the operation. The Istanbul-based body said it was satisfied with the attack on ISIS in Jarabulus and supported the efforts of the Free Syrian Army to recapture the city. (With AA)
