Aleppo activists say WFP gives Assad chance to press civilians via aid

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Gathering of thowar Aleppo that includes all activists has directed a message to the World Food Programme (WFP) to express their rejection to choosing the Castello road to deliver the humanitarian aid, which is controlled by the Syrian regime and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and other sectarian militias.

Moreover, many civil bodies and local councils in Eastern Aleppo have demanded WFP to deliver aid via Ramousah route instead of Castello, accompanied with many protests in Aleppo to reject choosing Castello road for aid delivery.

Zaman Al Wasl obtained a copy of the message Thowar Aleppo that forwarded to WFP in which they explained that forces controlling Castello road had shut the roads before and caused severe blockade for almost a month, and choosing that road is considered bias to the “criminal” according to the message.

Moreover, Thowar Aleppo have requested changing to route of delivering aid to Ramousah road, as it is the most suitable route because it is the nearest one to borders of Turkey, and it was the main road provided people in Eastern Aleppo with aid and food.

From its side, World Food Programme replied in brief via Twitter and explained that Castello road is safer than ramousah because the later is under frequent heavy shelling, which might put the delivery process and staff under risk. Moreover, it is narrow and trucks might not be able to pass through easily and safely.
Fakhri Bakar, a member of Thowar Aleppo gathering and a former member of the

Local Council explained that Ramousah route was used before by the Turkish organisation (IHH) and trucks managed to pass through. he added that allegation that Ramousah route is subject to frequent shelling is not true, as the regime’s and Russian aircraft are the main bodies that bomb the route, and the organisation can negotiate with the regime to stop shelling the route.

The World Food Programme, part of the United Nations, has recently informed the aid and humanitarian organisations that they had chosen the road of Castello to deliver aid to Aleppo, which annoyed activists work in humanitarian and relief aid in Aleppo where they organised protests to express their disagreement with the decision.
