Assad helicopters kill 24 civilians in Aleppo: monitor

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 24 civilians were killed and more than 30 injured Saturday in a new massacre by Syrian regime air strikes on Bab al-Nairab neighborhood in Aleppo city, local monitor group said.

Aleppo Media Center clarified that a helicopter dropped two explosive barrels on a mourning tent made to receive condolences for the victims killed last week in the neighborhood confirming there are 11 children among victims.

Local Coordination Committees said the Syrian Civil Defense teams rushed to rescue civilians after the first barrel was dropped, but the helicopter bombed again the area causing huge material damage to ambulances and residential buildings.

Also, Syrian regime warplanes bombed al-Sukari neighborhood in Aleppo injuring many civilians whereas 5 civilians were killed and scores injured in Orm al-Kubra town. 3 others were killed in Dar Izzet west of Aleppo.

Once home to Syria’s economy, Aleppo city has been ravaged by the conflict that began with anti-government protests in March 2011 and left about half million people killed.

Syrian regime has been accused of regularly using barrel bombs on rebel-held areas, home to civilians. Other parties to the conflict are not known to have used the weapons.
