(Zaman al-Wasl)- Documents obtained by Zaman al-Wasl reveal stories of how some dissident officers were caught around the corner or just before they planned to escape.
In document number 5899 raised as a confidential and urgent fax by branch 236 to the general intelligence branch dated 23/09/2012 that included information obtained by the branch about Colonel Salah Darwich from the village of Sarmin in Idlib’s countryside working in Kweirus military airport moving his house furniture from Aleppo city to his town as preliminary step in what the fax described as his dissent from service.
In an unusual situation, despite its secrecy the branch leadership (236) suggested sending a picture of the fax to the administration of the air force intelligence, perhaps the suggestion came as a result of Colonel Darwich’s work in the military airbase as he is subordinate in theory to this administration.
Colonel Darwich succeeded in dissenting from the regime military despite the extensive monitoring of his movements, and only a few months passed before he joined the rebels in Idlib and resisted the regime, and participating in many of the province’s battles before moving on to work against the regime forces in Aleppo province.
Zaman al-Wasl refrains from publishing the Colonel’s picture due to security reasons.
The fax included an extensive and detailed monitoring of the Colonel Riyad al-Asaad, indicating that the branch sources reported al-Asaad entering the border village of Atme, and Zaman al-Wasl had previously published documents proving the extensive monitoring of al-Asaad’s movements.
