FSA makes gains in Aleppo province, takes 6 more villages from ISIS

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Free Syrian Amy backed by Turkish jets have pressed new advances on Wednesday in the northern countryside of Aleppo, taking 6 more villages from the Islamic State as the Euphrates Shield military operations enters third week, Anadolu agency said.

The villages that situated near captured town of al-Rai gave FSA and Turkey the upper hand over ISIS as the radical group power shrines near the Turkish border.

Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield to drive ISIS away from its border on Aug. 24, when FSA forces backed by Turkish artillery, tanks and air power liberated Jarabulus in northern Syria.

ISIS, on Tuesday, killed three Turkish soldiers and wounded four in an attack in Syria’s Aleppo province, the military said.

“Rockets were launched at two Turkish tanks operating in Wuguf district of Aleppo on Tuesday,” the Turkish General Staff said in an emailed statement. “During the clashes with ISIS, three soldiers were martyred and four others wounded -- one of them succumbed to death at the hospital.”

The injured were airlifted for treatment in hospitals in Gaziantep, across the border.

Two FSA fighters were killed and two injured in the same area, the Turkish military added.

Last Saturday, Turkish tanks crossed the border further to the west to remove ISIS from all the territory facing the frontier.

Tuesday saw 50 ISIS targets hit by howitzer fire, the statement said, bringing the total number of targets hit to 443 since the operation was launched 14 days ago. The military said targets around Baraghedeh were struck before the FSA took Wuguf and neighboring villages. (With AA)
