ISIS plans to control Deir ez-Zour over oil and water interests


 Zaman Alwasl tried to explore part of the activity of  the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham “ISIS” in Deir ez-Zour, one of the most important province in East Syria, because news has been spreading about ISIS determination to extend its influence on this province, which have oil, water and agricultural wealth and is considered a very important weight in the Syrian economy.

A leader in Islamic brigades in Deir al--Zour warned from the increasing penetration of ISIS in the region, pointing out that ISIS began seriously planning to control the Euphrates basin, as the region is free from any regime forces and close to the Iraqi pipeline.

The leader said that information available so far indicating that ISIS is preparing to invade Deir ez-Zor with a strong army of more than 1,500 fighters, and it is now on the outskirts of “Jadid Ekadat” village to the north-east of Deir al-Zour.

The leader continued explaining the strategy of ISIS in controlling areas and said: “to extent influence on an area, ISIS relied on violent killing, oppression, spreading terror among civilians, as well assassinations of leaders in other brigades. ISIS uses small financial incentive to those who show loyalty.

In the meantime, the Revolutionary Military Council holds many meetings in  Mohassan town near Deir ez-Zor, to discuss the seriousness of ISIS’s expansion in eastern regions, and the possibility of putting an end to this serious progression.

Moreover, residents in the region confirm to Zaman Alwasl that ISIS has planned to control the oil areas in order to control that strategic wealth, and gain people’s trust especially with coming winter.

In a move described by the sources as “serious”, ISIS intend to appoint an Emir in al-Mayadin, near Deir ez-Zor, which will make the existence d of ISIS a reality and may strengthen and encourage their presence in other regions toward Abu Kamal.

Socially, many warned from the danger of spreading marriage with ISIS’s members to Syrian women in rural areas, pointing out to the big amount of money they pay to parents to tempt them and that what happened in al-Anbar in Iraq.

The source warned from ISIS’s domination on eastern regions of Syria, especially after al-Raqqa became under their control, and he thinks that defeating it would be easy if the battalions and brigades get united and get rid of their selfishness and individualism.
