49 people killed in regime air strikes on Idlib market

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 49 civilians have been killed and dozens have been wounded Saturday in a new massacre by Syrian regime jets targeted a central market with vacuum missiles, local sources reported.

Medical sources told Zaman al-Wasl the number of civilians killed in the massacre might increase and Syrian Civil Defense teams rushed to rescue victims.

Also, regime jets bombed Marret al-Numan and other areas in the western countryside injuring scores and several displaced people in Khan Shaykhoun town were killed Friday by similar air strikes.

Early Saturday, the United States and Russia announced a breakthrough agreement on Syria that foresees a nationwide cease-fire starting on Monday, followed a week later by an unlikely new military partnership targeting the Islamic State and al-Qaida as well as new limits on Bashar Assad's forces, Reuters reported.

After a daylong final negotiating session in Geneva, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said shortly after midnight Saturday that the plan could reduce violence in Syria and lead to a long-sought political transition, ending more than five years of bloodshed. He called the deal a potential "turning point" in a conflict that has killed as many as 500,000 people, if complied with by Syria's Russian-backed government and U.S.-supported rebel groups.
