Syrian opposition advances along Turkish border

Syrian opposition forces have taken control of an 845 square kilometer (326 square mile) area of northern Syria as part of Operation Euphrates Shield, the Turkish military said Monday.

The operation was launched on Aug. 24 to clear the Turkey-Syria border of Daesh terrorists, using Syrian Free Army forces backed by the Turkish army and air force.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said two airstrikes by coalition jets against Daesh in the Baraghedeh area, around 15 km (9 miles) northwest of Azaz, destroyed an ammunition depot and two heavy machine guns Monday.
