Kurdish political party demands PYD militia release of detainees: sit-in


(Zaman Al Wasl)- Omar Ismael, a leader in Kurdistan Democratic Party reported Tuesday that the party had in many towns and villages of Hasaka organised sit-in demanding freeing prisoners at PYD’s prisons.

Ismael added in a statement to Zaman al-Wasl that they have organised sit-in at “Party” offices in al-Malikiya, Jawadiyah, Kahtaniyah, Qamishli, Amoda, Derbasiyah, Ras-al-Ain and Hasaka city at 11:00 am in the first day of Adha Eid demanding freeing prisoners at the party’s prisoners.

Ismael explained that militias of PYD have on August 15, arrested leaders in the Kurdistan Democratic Party after participating in the funeral of a Habib Qadri, the leader of Syrian Peshmerga. Among detainees were Mohammed Ismael, a member of the Political office of the party, Abdul-Karim Haji and Nafie Abdullah, members of the central committees of the party.

The leader explained that the party has not given any explanation for detaining them, even it rejected any request for visits.

The leader in Kurdistan Democratic Party: “we have requested all Kurdish bodies to pressurise the PYD to release them, the matter needs a pressure from the international community and civil organisations to stop these acts which serves the regime only”

Kurdistan Democratic Party has been formed of many political parties known as the “political union” which are: Kurdistan Democratic Party (Party) and Yekiti Party, and Azadi Party with its two wings (Mostafa Joma and Mostafa Oso).

All parties held a conference April 3, 2014 in Northern Iraq, to become the biggest and most popular Kurdish party because of its connection to barazani and it is part of the Kurdish National Council, that is one of the Syrian National Coalition. It has a military wing known as Syrian Peshmerga which received training in Northern of Iraq and PYD tries to prevent them from entering Syria.
