Syria ceasefire divides regime supporters

(Zaman Al Wasl) Regime supporters’ responses to the ceasefire that started on the night of Eid al-Adha has varied as some of them found it an opportunity for the terrorist factions to catch their breaths after their losses in Aleppo and Latakia countryside and called for the regime to not commit to the truce while others saw that the regime’s commitment reveals the “lying opposition” for its truth, considering that the regime forces will definitely breach the oppositions’.

Fahid Jasim al-Freyj, the regime minister of Defense, clearly expressed “the fight continues against the fighters where ever they are located,” without commenting directly on the truce issue.

The pro-regime al-Sahil News page called for not supporting the truce and relentlessly striking the terrorists, “so that they can gather their forces and gain more time to bring in additional arms shipments from Turkey.”

The United Bahluliyah News network called on America and Russia to bomb the Syrian resistance in Latakia’s countryside claiming there is no moderate opposition there indicating that those fighting on that front are from Turkistan Islamic Party and al-Sham Fatih Front which are not included in the ceasefire.

From the first hours the ceasefire began, regime media started promoting opposition breaches of the truce in Hama’s northern countryside and Latakia’s countryside. Regime media also spoke of breaches in Aleppo during, “targeting of a Russian media group tasked with observing the execution of the truce,” according to the page Latakia News and other pro-regime pages.

In contrast, some regime supporters saw the regime’s commitment to the truce as expressing a political shrewdness that results of which will be reflected positively on the Syrian state. The Jableh Media Network indicated that the truce will clarify for the world that, “the Syrian government is the only institution on Syrian territory that can commit to an institutional decision.”

The network added on its Facebook page, “the terrorists will breach the truce, and the world will see that they are divided sections which do not agree on the same opinion which will push to expand the number of factions classified as terrorist in addition to al-Nusra front and Daesh, to be hit later on.”

It must be mentioned, the ceasefire is set to continue for a week, and the American Russian agreement dictates that it will be extended in the event there is noticeable success on the group, and after two days of its start there have been no major breaches by either side.
