Tunisia extends state of emergency for one month

Tunisia has extended the current state of emergency for another month, the Tunisian Presidency has announced.

A statement said after consulting the premier and head of the national assembly on national security issues, President Beji Caid Essebsi decided to extend the state of emergency from September 19 for a month.

This is the third time the measure was extended since November, when 12 presidential guards were killed in a terrorist attack on their vehicle in the capital Tunis.

Tunisian authorities have tightened up security along border with war-torn Libya since March when militants attacked military and security facilities in the town of Ben Gardane.

At least 12 soldiers and seven civilians lost their lives in the attack, in which dozens of militants were killed.
