Assad dismisses Head of Terrorism Court over extortion and fraud charges

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Syrian regime's president Bashar al-Assad issued decree on Sunday exempting chief of Terrorism Court Rida Musa and 5 more judges from their work in the Rirst and Second Terrorism Courts.

The decree assigns Judge Ghazi Badir al-Salah as the new chief of the first terrorism court and head of felony room and judge Mohamed Khankan was appointed head of second felony room at the terrorism court while Judge Nabeel Darwish was appointed as advisor at the court.

The regime decree also cancelled the reserve room at the terrorism court and reformed the room allocated for terrorism cases at the Cassation Court.

The first terrorism court was founded in the second year of the Syrian revolution and it is subordinate to the High council of the Syrian judiciary, but in reality it is managed by heads of security branches. The court is the only party that issues judicial sentences to Syrian detainees estimated to be more than 500000.

According to judicial sources from the judicial palace, Rida Musa the former chief of the court collected hundreds of millions from families of detainees in exchange for their release. Some families paid 3000000 SP to release their detainees.
