Assad regime uses Umbrella Bombs in shelling Syrian areas


(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime uses in bombing residential areas in Homs northern countryside and in other recently liberated areas huge bombs carrying umbrellas which land slowly compared to missiles and explosive barrels causing huge destruction.

Zaman al-Wasl obtained a photo of one of these bombs which fell on Karam al-Mayser neighborhood in Aleppo, but it did not explode despite falling on a solid body (the pavement of a main street).

Well-informed sources told Zaman al-Wasl that regime warplanes targeted residential neighborhoods in Talbiseh on Tuesday with two bombs of this type killing and injuring scores of civilians.



Engineer General Abu Ahmad who spent half a century in regime military airports told Zaman al-Wasl this type of bombs is dropped from very high heights on random targets. The bomb weighs between (500-2550kg).

He added the bomb is made in Russia and goes back to the 80s, adding that he saw many of these bombs in al-Nasriye military airport in Damascus countryside and Ti-four in Homs countryside.

He pointed out these bombs are normally stored in empty planes passages and would be closed with circular wooden cages confirming launcher warplanes which carry 4 in one flight is the one which drops these bombs in addition to some helicopters like Mi-25.
