Rebels shoot down Mig-23 in al-Qalamoun, Pilot handed over to Regime

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Sources confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl that a MiG 23 BN airplane was shot down on Wednesday evening in eastern Qalamoun as it conducted a raid on one of locations where battles are raging between Islamic State from one side and Ahmad al-Abdu Brigade and Jaish al-Islam on the other side in al-Petra north of al-Dumayr military airport. The source of the anti-ground missile has not yet been confirmed.

The source mentioned that the MiG pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Ehab Suleiman from the countryside of Banyas ejected himself from the craft after he was unable to control it and parachuted into the area under Ahmad al-Abdu Brigade and Jash al-Islam control.

According to the source, the surprise was the al-Abdu Brigade handing the pilot over to regime forces in the village of Jayrud as per the ceasefire agreement accorded in 2014 between Ahmad al-Abdu Brigade and the commander of the 20th Brigade the former pilot Major General Jayiz al-Musa.

The source revealed that the pilot Suleiman is considered the most sectarian pilot in Syria and has committed hundreds of massacres. He has executed over 1500 attacks in Damascus countryside, Daraa and al-Quneitra. His airplane was shot more than once in the Eastern Ghouta district.

The aircraft belongs to the 697 squadron, brigade 17 in al-Seen airport, which has lost the most warplanes since the start of the revolution. This is the 11th airplane from this squadron to be shot down since July 2012.
