(Zaman Al Wasl) Zaman al-Wasl learned that the regime’s command of the air forces has prepared an emergency evacuation plan to evacuate air force equipment from Hama military airport in the event such a need arises.
A knowledgeable military source said the Syrian resistance’s military successes in Hama’s northern countryside presents a threat to the military airport. The resistance targeted the airport with artillery fire injuring a number of members of the 14th and 63rd brigades, helicopters and central maintenance for helicopters, other military interests based in the airport air force, and ground force equipment was affected by the shrapnel from the rockets.
The source revealed that the air force command established advanced technical detachments formed of officers and technician officers from the 14th brigade to move the ground force equipment, confirming their readiness to move to any airport the regime command choses.
He indicated that the air force equipment (airplanes) are considered easy to move, as they take off from the airport that must be evacuated, head to the reserve airport, and land there. The reserve airport will be prepared with a technical team ready to welcome the airplanes at any time they receive the command to move location to any reserve airport.
The military formations in Hama Airport
Hama airport is considered one of the most important regime strongholds in central Syria. It is the principal base for the air force 14th brigade which was distributed in Hama and Abu Adh Dhuhur airport, and Hama airport includes the following military formations:
1- 14th brigade which includes to squadrons of MiG 21 and MiG 23.
2- 63rd brigade of fighting helicopters of the type mi-17 and mi-18 which were based in Taftanaz airport which fell to the rebels of Idlib on 12/01/2013.
3- Airplane detachment of L39 subordinate to the Air Force Academy to execute night raids.
4- Fighter helicopter detachment mi-25 of the 64th brigade.
5- Helicopter detachment M/D of Kazan type of the 86th brigade.
6- Central maintenance of helicopters of type mi-8+mi-17
7- Air force operation headquarters
8- Air force command headquarters for central area
9- A number of infantry components and units from the special forces based in the airport in addition to the National Defense forces and regime thugs.
