(Zaman Al Wasl)- Turkish media outlets have brought to attention what they are calling the “security wall” that will separate Turkey and Syria. The wall extends for almost 900 kilometers along the border and it is a little under 3 meters high with an expected completion date of a few months. The wall, can be described as the great wall of Turkey given its extent and height.
According to reports Zaman al-Wasl reviewed, the Provision of Social Housing in Turkey (known as TOKI) has pledged to build the remaining 700 kilometers of the wall dividing Syria and Turkey after 200 kilometers of the wall was completed in cooperation and coordination between the Turkish Defense Ministry and the provinces which the wall passes through.
According to Ergun Turan, the administrative head of TOKI, completing the wall will make the border safer. He indicated at the same that the wall is being built using material which can be dismantled when the wall is no longer needed. The wall is made from pre-fabricated concrete blocks which are transported and installed on site.
One block weighs around 7 tons, and it is two meters in length and 3 meters in height. Barbed wiring and security cameras will be installed on top of the wall.
Turan explained that work on most parts of the southern eastern border in the provinces of Hatay and Sanliurfa is complete and work is ongoing in other border provinces.
A road will be made directly behind the wall to enable military establishments to conduct monitoring patrols along the length of the wall and prevent any infiltration operations.
